Toney suspended from boxing

John Ruiz looks set to be reinstated as the WBA heavyweight champion after James Toney’s failed drugs test.

Toney claimed a unanimous points win over Ruiz last month but the fight has since been declared a no-contest after the former tested positive for a banned substance.

“We are waiting for the WBA to immediately implement its rule,” Ruiz’ attorney Anthony Cardinale said. “We’re glad the truth has come out and Johnny hasn’t lost his championship.”
