McRae plots rally comeback

Colin McRae wants to claim Skoda’s best result of the season when he makes his world championship comeback in next month’s Wales Rally GB.

McRae, who became Britain’s first world rally champion in 1995, returns to the cockpit for the first time since 2003 in Cardiff next month.

The Scotsman has spent his time competing in events such as the Dakar Rally and the Le Mans 24 Hours but is confident he can make his mark for Skoda in a rally he has won three times.

Skoda have never won a world rally outright and McRae concedes he is unlikely to trouble the likes of Sebastien Loeb and Petter Solberg.

But the 37-year-old has high hopes of setting a season’s best for the team, who have yet to have any of their drivers finish in the top eight in 2005.
