Motorcycle plan will revolutionise sport

SPORTS Minister John O'Donoghue yesterday launched a Strategic Plan for Motor Cycling Ireland (formerly MCUI Southern Centre) which is intended to revolutionise all forms of motorcycle competition.

The new plan is underpinned by a Vision for Motor Cycling Ireland where, by the end of 2005 the sport will have a more efficient and better funded National Sports Organisation; improved standards of performance; wider support and appeal; better safety and environmental standards; and, an increase in participation numbers.

Introducing the Strategic Plan, Motor Cycling Ireland President Sean Bissett outlined some of the key changes for the future of the sport, including a name change to Motor Cycling Ireland.

Other changes will include the election of a Board of Directors to govern the sport with seven Committees responsible for each of the Disciplines of Moto Cross, Short Circuit, Road racing, Trials, Touring, Veteran and Vintage and Enduro.

Also, there will be a full-time office and administration staff and a commitment to coach education in consultation with the National Coaching and Training Centre, so that riders in all Disciplines will receive the best possible coaching.
