Fitzgerald wins tennis title

PAUL Fitzgerald hit the jackpot on the Dublin tennis scene for the second time within a couple of months when at the Westwood - Clontarf Arena he added the Danone National Spring Tennis Championship title to his indoor award.

Fitzgerald, from Cork, who won the indoors at U18 at Christmas at Riverview, overcame Paul Foley 3-6 6-1 6-2.

Limerick’s Sam Barry went down in two sets to Castleknock’s Gavin Gilhawley.

Senior boys: P Fitzgerald bt P Foley 3-6 6-1 6-2. Intermediate Boys: J Flynn bt N Fitzgerald 6-3 4-6 6-2. Junior boys: G Gilhawley bt S Barry 6-3 6-4; Minor boys: A Gleeson bt R Pierce 6-1 6-4.

Senior girls: Charlotte Headon (winner of round robin series). Intermediate: L Wilmer bt J Claffey 5-7 6-2 6-1. Junior: L McCullough bt H Reddy 6-4 6-4. Minor: B O’Hanlon bt C Sadana-Acosta 6-0 6-4.
