Junior open moves into second round

The pattern was very much one-sided during the second round matches in the Danône Irish Junior Open tennis championships at the Fitzwilliam club in Dublin yesterday.

And Munster interprovincials Paul Fitzgerald, Andrea Maughan and Erica Maughan contributed to the trend with comfortable wins.

Number four seed Fitzgerald advanced in the boys senior singles, beating Neil Ryan 6-2 6-2. The Maughan girls also went through in straight sets.

At the top, there seems to be little danger for James McGee and Eoin Heavey.

They advanced easily and although the number three seed in the boys u18, James Cluskey, dropped seven games, he beat Warren Atkins 6-3 6-4.
