Gibbons shines for injury comeback

CLAIRE Gibbons returned from a long lay-off in record-breaking form to win the Carrigaline five-mile road race, promoted by Eagle AC.

After the birth of a baby last September and in her first race in over a year she won in 28:41, giving her eighth place overall out of the 172 finishers.

Also returning from a lay-off was local man, Josh Palmer, who won a closely fought mens’ race in 26:40. He got away from Wieslaw Sosnowski of the promoting club and Cathal O’Connell of St Finbarr’s, with just over a half-mile to go.

The organising Eagle club presented e400 to Carrigaline Meals-on-Wheels from the race, which was sponsored by Carrigaline Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic.
