Irish stars out for indoors

WHEN the team for the world indoor championships is named today there will be two notable absentees from amongst the qualified athletes.

Irish stars out for indoors

Paul McKee, bronze medallist in Birmingham last year and Derval O’Rourke who made it through to the semi-finals of the women’s 60m hurdles, are both unavailable.

Despite finishing third in Stuttgart on Thursday night McKee admitted at the weekend that his indoor season was over: “In the past week or two it began to sink in,” he said. “I have had this problem since last May and while it would sometimes go away it always came back in a day or two. It has been very frustrating. It amazed me that I could run a 60m flat out on Saturday night and walk away feeling all right.”
