I can end Harrison’s reign, says McCullough

WAYNE MCCULLOUGH says he would relish the opportunity to bring a quick end to the reign of newly-crowned WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison.

Harrison thrilled his fans at the weekend when he outpointed Julio Pablo Chacon but McCullough, at ringside for Sky television, was not overly impressed.

McCullough, dubbed the ‘Pocket Rocket’, said: ‘‘I thought he gave a very good performance but there’s nothing to be worried about.

‘‘He looked good against a guy who seemed to be happy boxing off the ropes and any time he did get through with his jab he was causing Harrison some trouble.

‘‘I really think that my pace would cause him a lot of problems. He likes to load up but I would be on him while he’s thinking about throwing his punches.

‘‘I spoke to Frank Warren and he has said that he wants me to have two or three more fights before a world title fight. He feels, as I do, that I have to settle into a weight.

‘‘The Harrison fight is there to be made but Frank also has the WBO super-bantamweight champion (Joan) Guzman so that is also an option.

‘‘Certainly my coach (Kenny Croom) wouldn’t be concerned about me fighting Harrison. Midway through the fight he had a big smile on his face. He feels I would have too much for him.’’

McCullough returns to the Belfast ring on November 2 at Maysfield Leisure Centre. It is already heading for a sell-out according to Mike Callahan who is co-promoting with Warren.
