Comeback kid McCullough wins in US

WAYNE McCULLOUGH got his ring comeback off the ground with a second-round stoppage of American Mike Juarez at the Pechanga Resort Hotel in California in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The former WBC bantamweight champion, returning to the ring for the first time since his March 2003 defeat by WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison, knocked out Juarez with just a second remaining in the round.

“I’m very happy with the result. I thought it may have taken me a bit longer because he has been in with some top fighters like Erik Morales and gone the distance,” said McCullough.

“It’s great to be back and I got a great reception from the crowd.”
