Lewis discounts significance of failed drugs test at ’88 trials

NINE-TIME Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis has shrugged off the controversy surrounding his failed drug tests at the 1988 Olympic Trials.

The American told the Orange County Register newspaper the United States Olympic Committee at the time routinely let athletes off with a warning.

“There were hundreds of people getting off,” said Lewis in his first public comments since the controversy surfaced. “Everyone was treated the same.”
