Lee defeated in EU Boxing Championships

Limerick’s Andy Lee, Ireland’s only Athens-bound boxer, was narrowly beaten 30-24 on Saturday by Romanian Marian Simion in the middleweight final of the EU Boxing Championships in Madrid.

19-year-old Lee pushed the former Olympic and World medallist all the way. In the end, Simion's greater level of experience proved the deciding factor.

Lee has not fought since winning bronze at the European Championships in Croatia in February.
