Easy win in Mullingar for Fagan

MARTIN FAGAN of Mullingar Harriers cruised to a comfortable victory in yesterday’s New Year’s Day Resolution Five Kilometre Road Race in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.

Fagan, who is on an athletic scholarship at Providence College, Rhode Island, raced into an early lead and finished strongly in 14 minutes 43 seconds. Paul Fleming (Rathfarnham/WSAF) finished second in 15:15 and Vincent O’Sullivan (unattached) finished third in 15:20.

Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers got her year off to a winning start taking the women’s race in 16:20. Orla O’Mahoney (UCD) finished second in 16:58 and Sandra Gowan (Sportsworld) finished third in 18.02.
