Sainz retires

Two-time world rally champion Carlos Sainz has announced his retirement from the sport.

The Spaniard, who won the World Rally Championship title in 1990 and 1992 while with Toyota, has decided to call it a day at the age of 42.

ā€œI have retired to spend more time with my family,ā€ Sainz said yesterday.

The married father-of-three has won a record-breaking 26 rallies since making his WRC debut in Portugal in 1987.

His most recent success was in the Rally of Argentina in July and he is fourth in the standings.
