Cork star Séamus Harnedy has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling, ending a distinguished 15-year career in the red jersey.
The St Ita's clubman became a cornerstone of the Cork attack since 2013, though he made his debut in the jersey two years earlier in the Waterford Crystal Cup.
In 2013, he started both the All-Ireland final and replay as Cork were pipped by Clare, ending the year with his first All-Star award.
His mix of crisp striking, physicality and aeriel prowess made him a stable on Cork teams for the next decade and more.
Through his time with the Cork seniors, he won four Munster SHC titles, a National Hurling League medal and collected three All-Star awards. He captained Cork to the Munster title in 2018.
Like his decorated colleague Patrick Horgan, an All-Ireland senior medal remained elusive. He lost further finals in 2021, 2024 and 2025, when he was a second-half sub against Tipperary.
In a statement released via Instagram, Harnedy said: "It’s hard to put into words what the last 15 years in the Cork jersey have meant to me.
"I’ve had the honour of playing with and against some of the greatest hurlers of all time.
"On top of that I’ve had the privilege of working under outstanding management teams and mentors but the time has come to step away.
"Incredibly grateful for the support from my family, my friends, my club, St.Ita’s and the people of Cork."
