Bride Rovers delivered a controlled display to annex Cork's RedFM Division 2 hurling league title with a 1-21 to 0-14 win over Erin's Own at Lisgoold.
The Rathcormac men had Cork's Brian and Eoin Roche starting, as did their inter-county colleague Robbie O’Flynn for Erin’s Own.
The Roches brothers played their part in their side’s win, with Brian outstanding at centre-forward before dropping to midfield late on. His work-rate was superb from start to finish, and had there been a player of the game award, then he would have collected the trophy.
Eoin Roche masterminded their defence and didn’t put a foot wrong as he marked O’Flynn for most of the second half in particular.
Indeed it was Brian Roche who set up Louie Roche for the final's only major, giving Rovers a 1-11 to 0-6 interval lead.
When Erin's Own's Cormac McDonnell pointed, Bride just upped the ante and rattled off four points in the space of two minutes.
Meanwhile in the Division 4 final in Riverstown, Kilworth produced a strong second-half showing to see off Aghabullogue, 2-25 to 1-19.
Noel Gowen’s outfit led by two at the short whistle, but the concession of a goal that briefly put them two points behind proved the spark they needed as they pushed on to win by nine.
They dominated the final quarter, stringing six scores together at one stage, and overpowered last year’s IAHC winners.
Three behind at the break Aghabullogue hit the front when Dano Dineen did brilliantly in the build-up to set up James Lane for a rasping goal after 33 minutes. The sides swapped the next four points as Aghabullogue led 1-14 to 0-15.
A fine point from sub Liam Whelan left Kilworth one adrift as the game appeared on a knife-edge — or so it seemed. From the 42nd minute onwards, Kilworth took over. Following Whelan’s score, they put five points together to lead 0-21 to 1-14.
A Bradley free cut the gap before Kilworth goaled after 45 minutes, Michael Sheehan setting up Will Condon for an unstoppable finish.
Bradley added two quick points, one from a free, but Kilworth effectively put the game to bed with a second goal 11 minutes from time when James Sheehan netted to make it 2-21 to 1-17.
Impact from the bench was a key plank of victory for Barryroe as they claimed the Division 7 title at Newcestown on Saturday.
The Carbery club won a first piece of adult hurling silverware since the 2007 JAHC as the scored the last three points, all three coming from substitutes as part of a 1-6 total from players introduced in the second half to run out 1-15 to 1-13 victors over Ballinora.
The goal, from Ryan O’Donovan on 39 minutes, had given them the edge coming down the stretch but Ballinora swung things back their way as Mike Lordan’s good delivery allowed Ciarán O’Donoghue to set up Conor Quirke for a blistering strike to the net – 1-13 to 1-12 with five minutes of normal time left.
However, last year’s beaten junior A finalists missed chances to extend that advantage and Olan O’Donovan levelled for Barryroe before Conor O’Regan put them back in front – he was unlucky not to goal.
