At just 20 years old, Aaron Niland has achieved a seamless transition to senior hurling.
The young Galway star lined out in his first Leinster senior hurling final last weekend, and the Clarinbridge attacker emerged as his side’s top scorer in their 4-29 to 4-15 victory over Dublin.
It represented a first provincial title for Micheál Donoghue’s squad since 2018, while also advancing the westerners straight to the All-Ireland semi-final early next month.
Aaron’s 1-8 included a second-half penalty and six frees. His distinct placed ball routine is learned from older brother and senior panellist Evan.
A third sibling Niamh, is an All-Ireland winner with the Galway senior camogie team.
Aaron recently overcame an ankle injury that disrupted his involvement with the U20s, he says striking a balance between the 20s and seniors can be a difficult task.
Fresh from his inaugural Leinster senior success - which he appears to take in his stride - Aaron was speaking at Tuesday’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship launch in Blarney.
