Goals from Joe Quigley, Sam Callinan and Darragh Reilly proved key as UCD overcame Maynooth in the Sigerson Cup clash in Belfield on Tuesday night.
Sam Callinan kick-started a late surge from UCD which saw them grab 1-3 in the closing stages to seal victory.
Mayo defender Callinan raised a green flag in the 55th-minute putting his UCD side up by a goal, and a further point from fellow Mayo man Niall Hurley, coupled with a Michael McIvor two-pointer, who was introduced off the bench in the 54th minute, was enough to carry the Dublin college over the line.
Luke Crowley did grab a point for Maynooth in that period, but Callinan's goal proved key is giving UCD the required momentum.
The full-foward line of the aforementioned Quigley, Reilly and Hurley contributed a handsome 2-10 between them, while Aaron Browne and Eoin Cully carried the Maynooth fight up front.
