Cork will host an All-Ireland club senior semi-final for the first time since 1989 when Dingle and Ballyboden St Enda’s meet on Saturday, January 3 (3.15pm throw-in).
SuperValu Páirc Uà Chaoimh had been speculated as the venue last week and the Central Competitions Control Committee confirmed it on Monday evening.
Not since All-Ireland semi-finals were played at home venues and Nemo Rangers beat Dublin’s Parnells in Ballygarvan 36 years ago has Cork staged a club SFC last four game.
Although the game is in Munster, both clubs are believed to be reasonably satisfied with the choice of venue as it’s a five-hour plus round journey for Ballyboden (510 kilometres) and just over a four and a half round trip for Dingle (310km).
It will form the second part of a double-header with the intermediate semi-final between Dingle’s neighbours An Ghaeltacht and Sallins (1.15pm start) beginning proceedings.
The other senior semi-final between St Brigid’s and Scotstown has been arranged for Kingspan Breffni in Cavan town on Sunday, January 4 (3pm).
Ballymacelligott will also be out in action on Saturday, January 3 when they travel to Rathkeale’s Mick Neville Park to meet Leinster junior champions Grangenolvin in their All-Ireland junior semi-final (2pm).
