During the summer while their county men were away with Kerry and before their fishermen would head off to sea for the day, half a dozen or so Dingle players would meet up at 6am on Wednesdays in the club field for extra skills work under the tutelage of James Weldon.
The coach of the national senior women’s basketball team had garnered a lot of experience and kudos from working out players individually in that sport, most notably Rachael Vanderwal from his dominant UL Huskies team of the early 2010s; she’d retire as an Olympian, Commonwealth silver medallist and the third-most capped Great Britain international ever.
