Recently retired Cork hurler Patrick Horgan has taken his first step into management by joining Noel Furlong’s Cork U20 set-up as a selector.

Cork GAA announced on Tuesday morning that Horgan, who retired from the inter-county scene in September after 18 years in red, is now part of Furlong’s U20 hurling management ticket for the 2026 campaign.

The 37-year-old replaces outgoing selector Vincent Hurley.

Dónal Óg Cusack, Tadhg Óg Murphy, and Seán Guiheen, all of whom were with Furlong for his first season in the U20 job, complete the sideline line-up.

Horgan and Furlong previously worked together when the latter was a selector during the final year of Kieran Kingston’s second stint as Cork manager in 2022. That was also the season where Hoggie was dropped for Cork’s final two games of the 2022 championship, including the county’s All-Ireland quarter-final exit at the hands of Galway.

In an interview the following year, Horgan claimed he was “treated unfairly” by the Cork management in 2022.
