Christy O'Connor: Savouring the O’Connor show in Wexford Park

With a Leinster final to come against Ballyhale Shamrocks, Barry O’Connor is now looking to do something that only one other former AFL player – Chrissy McKaigue from Slaughtneil – has achieved; win a provincial senior club hurling medal

Midway through the first half in Wexford Park Sunday, Jack O’Connor stood over a sideline outside the 65-metre line and cut it straight over the crossbar. He did have the wind at his back but O’Connor’s execution was laced with the class and panache that has been long associated with his family and Wexford hurling.

St Martin’s absolutely dominated this Leinster Club SHC semi-final against Naas but it was also very much the O’Connor show between Jack, his younger brother Rory and their first-cousin Barry O’Connor. Ahead by 0-15 to 0-5 at the break, the three O’Connor’s had either scored, engineered, converted or assisted 14 of those 15 first half scores.
