Niall Fitzgerald is set to be appointed as the new Tipperary senior football manager, the Nenagh Guardian has reported.

The Moyle Rovers man will fill the post left vacant by the sudden death of Philly Ryan last month.

His appointment will be ratified at the November meeting of Tipperary GAA. Fitzgerald featured alongside Ryan for Tipperary during their playing careers.

Fitzgerald managed the Tipp U20s from 2023 to 2025, narrowly missing out on a Munster final place this year after a late defeat by Cork.

His first game in charge of the seniors is likely to be next month's challenge match with All-Ireland champions Kerry, in aid of the Dillion Quirke Foundation. The Fethard fixture is a double header, with the Tipp hurlers meeting Limerick.
