Subsequent to Blackrock booking their last eight place on Sunday evening in Castle Road with victory over Carbery on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-9, the draw for the SE Systems Cork senior camogie championship quarter-finals was made and it has put together some much-anticipated pairings.
Defending champions St Finbarr’s take on Killeagh. The Togher club put up big scores this season — in their three games to date they have raised eight green flags to finish top of Group B.
Killeagh have grown into the championship and after a round one loss to Sarsfields they regrouped to secure narrow wins over Aghabullogue and Éire Óg.
The mention of Éire Óg brings to mind their thrilling preliminary quarter-final triumph over Courcey Rovers on Saturday night, which came after double extra-time, 3-20 to 3-18. They take on Glen Rovers, who finished second in Group C, but went into the draw as a top seed as they were the best of the second-placed teams.
An all-east Cork derby sees last year’s beaten finalists Sarsfields and St Catherine’s collide.
Sarsfields topped Group A, and when it comes to scoring goals they have one more than St Finbarr’s with nine majors bagged in three games. St Catherine’s only defeat in Group B was to St Finbarr’s.
Ballinora will do battle with Blackrock. The mid Cork side were the leading team in Group C following victory over Courcey Rovers and Glen Rovers.
Blackrock came through a preliminary quarter-final to secure their place after a slow start but putting five goals past Inniscarra got their season back on track. A date for the relegation final replay between Aghabullogue and Inniscarra is to be decided after they played out a 1-11 draw on Friday night.
