Doon and Kilmallock played out an entertaining draw in their Limerick Senior Hurling Championship Round Three clash in Knocklong.
The game finished 0-22 to 2-16 with Adam English providing a virtuoso display that yielded 0-13 for a Doon side that were behind for most of the contest.
Early goals from Killian Hayes and Oisin O’Reilly had Kilmallock in control but Doon fought back with English putting them in front for the first time on the hour. However, Kilmallock held their nerve to draw the contest that sees both sides move onto four points in Group One.
The first ever Limerick SHC game at the home of Garryspillane began with a bang with the opening goal after two minutes.
Gearoid Enright’s shot after a sublime Paudie O’Brien catch was stopped by Doon keeper Darragh Stapleton but Hayes was on hand to fire in the rebound.
Barry Murphy got Doon on the board moments later, however it was only brief respite as O’Reilly pounced onto a breaking ball and flashed to the net.
It was nip and tuck from there for large parts of the opening half hour with Shane O’Brien and English keeping the scoreboard ticking over from placed balls.
English was also a serious threat from play for Derek McGrath’s charges but Kilmallock had plenty of options up front themselves.
Greame Mulcahy and Conor Staunton both helped themselves to scores from play that helped Kilmallock to a 2-7 to 0-11 advantage at the break.
English had the game squared up for the first time early in the second half and it was a tight contest from there on in.
It was an enthralling contest coming down the stretch with a stunning English strike looking to see Doon home but O’Reilly responded to give Kilmallock a deserved share of the spoils.
