Adrigole start as they mean to go on against Glanworth

Adrigole got their campaign in Group 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork IAFC off to the perfect start with a 2-15 to 0-6 win over Glanworth in Coachford on Saturday. Last year the Beara men fell at the penultimate hurdle by a single point to Boherbue, but this result will only have them looking forward.
They played with the wind in the opening half, and despite amassing a worrying number of wides led by 0-9 to 0-3 at the break. Ben O’Sullivan clipped 0-3 in that opening period, Tom O’Connor and Denis Collins kicked 0-2 while Cian O’Shea landed a two-pointer. Two points from Jesse Walsh and 0-1 from Mikie Sheehan kept Glanworth in touch but they were undone after the break when Ben O’Sullivan struck for two goals in three minutes. O’Connor brought his total to 0-5 for Adrigole while Tiernan Sullivan and Cathal O’Sullivan also found their range. David Pyne kicked a two-pointer for Glanworth, who now have a month to reset.
Ballinora joined Adrigole on two points as a result of their 2-17 to 2-9 win over St Finbarr’s in Ballinhassig on Sunday night. Mark O’Brien led the way for Ballinora with 1-4, Kevin Werner clipped 1-3 while Michale Quirke landed 0-5 and Robert Quirke shot 0-4. For the Barrs, Cian O’Sullivan kicked 1-2, Tomás Egan scored their other goal and Jamie Lenihan contributed 0-3.
In Group 2, Gabriel Rangers recorded an impressive 0-19 to 0-16 win over Mitchelstown in Ahiohill. The West Cork men also suffered a one-point semi-final defeat last season and they put in a real team display here, with nine players getting on the scoresheet. Christopher Moynihan led the way with 0-4, Keith O’Driscoll and Jamie O’Regan kicked 0-3 while Eddie Goggin, Gerald O’Callaghan and Seán Kelleher all contributed 0-2. Michael Walsh was Mitchelstown’s top-scorer with 0-6, Jason Cott and Shane Beston both clipped 0-3 while Cormac Keane Hyland scored 0-2.
Kildorrery are also on two points as a result of their 0-14 to 0-12 win over Dromtarriffe in Ballyclough on Sunday. Kildorrery trailed by 0-9 to 0-4 at the break, but a powerful second half performance helped them to the perfect start. James Keating was in fine form for the Avondhu men as he kicked 0-7, including one two-pointer. Cathal Harrington had two points for Kildorrery, while goalkeeper Darren Caplice also landed a two-pointer. Conor O’Callaghan kicked 0-7 for Dromtarriffe while Evan Murphy shot 0-4.
In Group 3, Ilen Rovers recorded their first championship win since 2022 with a 1-12 to 0-12 win over Boherbue in Inchigeelagh. Adrian O’Driscoll was in fine fettle for Rovers, kicking 1-5 while Michale Sheehy clipped 0-2 and Alan Holland, Peadar O’Driscoll and Denis Hegarty all found their range too. John Corkery was Boherbue’s top scorer with 0-6, Bryan Herlihy kicked 0-3 while Cathal Ducey clipped 0-2.
Last year’s PJFC, Kilmurry, proved they were ready for the raising of the grade with a 4-17 to 0-12 win over St Vincent’s in Ballyanley. Dinny O’Mullane had a dream night for the Muskerry men as he hit Vincent’s for 3-2 while Ruadhán Ó Cuarraoin registered 1-7. Joe Mullane kicked 0-3 for Kilmurry, while Conor Kelleher and Johnny Mullane both had 0-2. Blake Murphy was Vincent’s main man with 0-4, including a two-pointer, while Anthony Harte and Benjamin Long both scored 0-2.
