Sciath na Scol: Victories for St Patrick's, Scoil Bhride Crosshaven, and Gaelscoil na Dúglaise

It was a fierce battle in the opening game of Allianz Sciath na Scol between St Patrick’s BNS and Ballygarvan in the H3 final with St Patrick’s coming out on top.
It was nip and tuck throughout the first half with Ballygarvan leading by two at the break but St Patrick’s grew throughout the second half and hit six points in a row to take the lead which they would not relinquish.

In a tight first half, St Patrick’s got the first score off the hurley of Jamie Murray. Ballygarvan evened things up when Patrick Browne hit a 65. Browne was key for St Patrick’s and sent a ball across the square with Ryan O’Sullivan battling to keep it in play and scored a superb goal from a difficult angle.
St Patrick’s responded with a goal when Donagh Cleary’s shot dropped in over the head of Ballygarvan keeper Tom O’Connor to level things 1-1 apiece.
James Shannon got Ballygarvan’s second goal picking up the ball from the puck out and going on a solo run before hitting the ball to the back of the net. St Patrick’s responded with a point from a 65 by Murray to leave the score 2-2 to 1-3 to Ballygarvan at half time.
Ballygarvan got off to a quick start in the second half with frees from Charley Broderick and Sam Spillane to leave four between the sides.
St Patrick’s found a purple patch hitting six on the bounce with Murray hitting four (three frees), Leo Hurley and Alex Kelly all raising white flags.
Ballygarvan got their third and final score of the half when Broderick hit a free to leave one between the sides. Hurley responded for St Patrick’s with another point before the impressive Murray hit his eighth point of the game leaving the final score 1-11 to 2-5.

Lucy G Murphy scored a hat-trick to help Scoil Bhride Crosshaven claim the Urban C1 title in the Allianz Sciath na Scol against Beaumont GNS.
It was a dominant display from Scoil Bhride as they had most of the possession throughout the game.
The first score of the game came midway through the first half when there was a battle for the ball in front of the Beaumont goal before Murphy struck the sliotar home.
Juno Foran hit a point from halfway and Muireann Sisk followed with a point to leave the score 1-2 to 0-0 at half time.
Scoil Bhride continued where they left off, with Murphy hitting two more goals to claim her hat-trick. Sisk and Foran got their second points of the game before Foran hit for Scoil Bhride's fourth goal.

Gaelscoil na Dúglaise claimed the Allianz Sciath na Scol H2 final after a hard fought battle against Crosshaven BNS. Gaelscoil na Dúglaise's strong finish to the first half proved to decisive as they were able to maintain their three point lead throughout the second half.
Crosshaven got off to a flying start with a goal from Tony Fitzgibbon just after the throw-in.
Oliver Dransfield followed up with a point before Brendan Hughes latched a kick on the end of a loose ball for it to be deflected over the bar to leave Crosshaven leading by 1-2 to 0-0.

Gaelscoil na Dúglaise found their way into the game with Cian Ó Duagáin getting them off the mark with a point from a free.
This was followed up by a goal from Dónal Ó Duinnín who didn’t give up the chase and saw the ball into the back of the net.
Crosshaven hit back with a goal from Roan Sisk but Gaelscoil na Dúglaise finished the half the stronger with a 65 from Rian Ó Dochartaigh. Seán Ó Riain hit a brace with his first goal deflecting into the net and his second being tapped in after Crosshaven’s goalkeeper Ryan O’Connell was unable to get full control of the ball. This left the score 3-2 to 2-2 to Gaelsoil na Dúglaise at half-time.
Gaelscoil na Dúglaise started the second half brightly with two frees from Ó Duagáin. It turned into a battle of the defences as scores were hard to come by but Sisk got Crosshaven’s first score of the second half and followed it up with a 65 to leave three between the sides.

Gaelscoil hit back with an impressive long range attempt by Ó Dochartaigh. Sisk got another point from a difficult angle for Crosshaven to reduce the deficit back to three but Ó Dochartaigh got the final score of the game for Gaelscoil to secure the title.

St Senan’s NS Cloghroe and Gaelscoil na Dúglaise shared the Allianz Sciath na Scol C1 title after playing out a draw.
Cloghroe got off to a flying start, scoring two early goals with Gaelscoil na Dúglaise getting two points before the break to leave four between the sides.
In reverse of the first half Gaelscoil na Dúglaise started the brighter of the two sides getting two early goals but Cloghroe worked their way back into the game.
Cloghroe got the first score of the game when a long ball was hit into the box, the ball bobbled around before Emily Sloman kicked the loose ball into the net. They followed it up with a second goal when Éile McSweeney hit a long range effort which came off the goalpost and into the back of the net to leave Cloghroe leading 2-0 to 0-0.
Doireann Ní Charra got Gaelscoil na Dúglaise off the board with a fine point. They followed it up with a 65 from Ava Ní Chinnseanháin to leave four between the sides going into the half-time break, 2-0 to 0-2.
Gaelscoil na Dúglaise got off to a flying start in the second half when Anna Mae Ní Choileáin hit the back of the net to leave one point between the sides. Ní Choileáin followed it up with a superb effort from the sideline which hit off the Cloghroe goalkeeper Anna Cahalan and into the back of the net. That put Gaelscoil into the lead for the first time, 2-2 to 2-0.
Cloghroe got their first point of the second half when Sloman lifted the white flag to leave just the minimum between the sides.
The defences came to the fore as the second half wore on with both sides struggling to break down each other but Cloghroe eventually won themselves a free with Eva O’Connor tapping over to level the game, 2-2 apiece and take a share of the prize. As the game ended in a draw, no extra time was played with both sides receiving a trophy.
