AFL Division 4: Longford 1-10 (1-2-6) Wexford 2-18 (2-1-16)

Wexford made it seven wins from seven as they recorded an 11-point win over a poor Longford side at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

John Hegarty’s side dominated the game from start to finish and looked dangerous anytime they went on the attack. Longford struggled throughout to contain the south east side.

Playing against the wind Wexford made a good start with early points from the Hughes brothers Páiric and Cian. Conor Carty and Eoin Potter added points to give Wexford a four-point lead after eight minutes.

Oran Kenny kicked over a fine point to give Longford their opening score. The Hughes brothers combined in the 12th minute for Wexford’s opening goal which Cian finished to the net.

Dylan Farrell scored a two pointer in the 22nd minute to cut the gap to five but Wexford replied with a point from Graeme Cullen and a goal that was credited to Sean Ryan.

Points from Kenny, McGann (two point free) and Dessie Reynolds cut the gap to four after 31 minutes. Páiric Hughes kicked over his second point to put Wexford 2-07 to 0-08 in front at the break.

Hughes and Darragh Brooks (two point free) extended the lead to eight in the 43rd minute. Kenny (free) and Ryan traded points before substitute Rian Fitzpatrick got on the scoresheet on his debut.

Brooks (free) and Páiric Hughes kicked over further points for Wexford as they kept the scoreboard ticking over. Longford were limited and their second half performance was dismal.

Longford ended the game with a fine goal from Kenny and a pointed free.
