Cork manager Pat Ryan has confirmed his 37-man panel for the remainder of the Allianz Hurling League.
The likes of Conor Cahalane (St Finbarrs) and Eoin Carey (Kilworth) featured in recent league panels but are not included. William Buckley and Ben Cunningham (both St Finbarrs) and Alan Walsh (Kanturk) were also involved in pre-season action but do not feature. Cunningham picked up a hamstring injury for UCC in the Fitzgibbon Cup last week.
Joining Jack O’Connor from Munster senior champions club Sarsfields are Cathal McCarthy and Daniel Hogan.
Speaking after the victory over Wexford last Saturday week, Pat Ryan said that Seán Twomey was a long-term injury doubt and he is omitted. Tommy O’Connell, who had also been coming back from a setback, is included in the long-list.
From last season’s squad, Twomey, Kildare-based Daire O’Leary and Conor O’Callaghan are also not involved. Conor Lehane and Pádraig Power, who suffered shoulder dislocations in the draw with Limerick on Saturday, remain in the set-up.
Meanwhile, Cork are expected to raise the subject of the €5 admission fee to Division 1A and 1B hurling and Division 1 and 2 football league games at Central Council later this month. At last month’s county board meeting, clubs expressed “significant disquiet” about the charge placed on children this season. A child’s ticket must also be bought with an adult one.
Although the measure was introduced in an attempt to put a halt to anti-social behaviour by unattended children at games, there has been opposition to the move in Clare where the county council have opposed the move.
The GAA are expected to reveal on Thursday that attendances for last year’s leagues were down from 2023. Ticket prices for the competition rose in 2023 and again in ’24 but other than the juvenile admission there was no change this year.
