Declan Dalton to miss two Cork games following red card against Wexford

Declan Dalton will miss Cork's next two Division 1 games after the Central Hearings Committee upheld referee Michael Kennedy's decision to show him a red card against Wexford last Saturday.

The Fr O'Neills man was dismissed along with Rory O'Connor following an altercation midway through the second half of The Rebels' win in Chadwicks Wexford Park.

Dalton contested the charge of "striking with the head" in front of the CHC on Thursday night but the body found that the infraction, as per Rule 7.2 (b), a Category 4 foul, was proven.

The 27-year-old has the option of making a case to the GAA's Central Appeals Committee but as of now he is set to miss Saturday's game against Limerick and the trip to face Tipperary in Thurles on Saturday, February 22.

Downey had been named to start on Thursday but rolled an ankle against Wexford last Saturday. Meade, who also began that game, comes into the team. Ballygiblin’s Darragh Flynn takes Meade’s place among the substitutes.

Meade’s introduction for Downey means Shane Barrett will lead the team and Tim O’Mahony will likely drop from midfield to right half-back and Ciarán Joyce begin at centre-back.
