Former Tyrone footballer Peter Canavan and former intercounty referee Maurice Deegan have been confirmed as two new members of the Football Review Committee.

A Central Council meeting approved the two new members of Jim Gavin’s committee on Saturday.

It comes after Malachy O’Rourke stepped aside after he accepted the Tyrone senior football job. Michael Murphy has also departed since he came out of retirement to join the Donegal squad.

Canavan is one of the most celebrated players in Gaelic football and won two All-Ireland titles with Tyrone. The six-time All-Star also managed Fermanagh from 2011 to 2013.

An Errigal Ciarán clubman, his sons Ruairí and Darragh will feature in the All-Ireland club final on Sunday and are current members of the Tyrone panel.

Laois native Deegan refereed three All-Ireland finals in 2008, 2012 and 2016 (replay). He retired in 2022 and was a member of BBC's GAA coverage last season.

The FRC have continued to engage with several bodies across the association. The new rules will be on display next weekend for the opening round of the National League.

FRC members: Jim Gavin (chairperson), Séamus Kenny (Runaí), James Horan, Colm Nally, Colm Collins, Shane Flanagan, Patrick Doherty, Éamonn Fitzmaurice, Alec McQuillan, Michael Meaney.
