Former Mayo manager James Horan believes Cillian O’Connor played a crucial role in establishing the county as a top tier team over the past decade.

O’Connor, who is 32 years old, has informed Mayo management of his decision to take a year out, but he hasn’t retired. The two-time All-Star has opted out for 2025.
