Monaghan GAA have announced that Gabriel Bannigan has been ratified as their senior footaball manager at a County Committee meeting on Thursday evening.

The Aughnamullen native will be joined by former Mayo All Star and Leitrim manager Andy Moran, John McElhone and Damien Freeman on a three year term with a review after two years.

"Monaghan GAA is delighted to announce that Aughnamullen native Gabriel Bannigan was formally ratified as Senior Football Manager by Monaghan County Committee at a meeting earlier this evening.

"Gabriel will be joined by Andy Moran, John McElhone and Damien Freeman and has been appointed for a three-year term with a review after two years.

"Best wishes to Gabriel and his backroom team."

Bannigan has enjoyed a successful stint with his home club Aughnamullen taking them from junior to senior football within three seasons. He has worked previously with Kilmacud Crokes and St Sylvester's in Dublin.

Monaghan will play outside Division one for the first time since 2015 when the new league kicks off in 2025.

With Kilmacud Crokes boss Robbie Brennan set to be named as Meath’s new manager on a three-year term, that will leave Derry and Clare as the only counties without football managers in place.
