In a summer where Galway’s injury-plagued full-forward trio have had more troughs than peaks, Shane Walsh has credited his defensive colleagues for keeping them in games where he and others have not been firing.

Sunday’s semi-final saw no member of Galway’s inside line - Walsh, Damien Comer, and Rob Finnerty - score from play beyond the 20th minute of the opening half. Instead, it was half-back Dylan McHugh and full-back Liam Silke who contributed three of the county’s last four scores from play.
