Legion's James O'Donoghue.

Legion's James O'Donoghue.

Killarney Legion moved off the bottom of Kerry's SFL Division 1 thanks to a 1-2 cameo from James O’Donoghue and in the process condemned Kerins O’Rahilly’s to a third straight defeat on a 3-11 to 0-10 scoreline. Legion made a whirlwind start when Peter O’Sullivan finished to the O’Rahilly’s net inside thirty seconds. The Tralee side failed to make use of the wind despite some good scores from Barry John Keane and Jake Foley. Two points from Ryan O’Grady and one each from Eoghan O’Sullivan and Finbarr Murphy saw Legion lead 1-4 to 0-6 at half time.

Darragh Lyne had a superb game at midfield for Legion and grabbed a third quarter goal and once James O’Donoghue arrived on the scene ten minutes into the second half, Kerins O’Rahilly’s had not answer to the 2014 footballer of the year who chipped in with 1-2 while Micheal Devlin fired over 0-2 from play.

Dr Crokes, Laune Rangers and Rathmore made it three wins from three but the latter two will meet in round 4 in a fortnight so Crokes are looking good under the guidance of Pat O’Shea. Dr Crokes beat Kilcummin in hard fought and defensive local derby on a 0-12 to 0-7 scoreline. Crokes always held the upper hand with Micheal Burns kicking a first half point as they led 0-5 to 0-2 at the interval with Cian Foley and Philip O’Leary replying for Kilcummin. Brian Looney kicked two superb second half points, Billy Courtney converted a forty five and another from play while Micheal Burns kicked a free and Evan Looney kicked a beauty.

Kilcummin had no answers but points from Philip O’Leary, Chris O’Leary, Cian Foley, Noel Duggan and James Williams meant they never threw in the towel.

Rathmore were full value for the 2-8 to 1-6 win over Ballymacelligott thanks to a 12th minute Anthony Darmody goal and another from his brother James five minutes later. Rathmore had a healthy half time lead (2-5 to 1-2) with James Darmody also converting three frees. Ballymac failed to build on an early goal from Donal Daly but the conditions were difficult.

An Alan Dineen point early in the second half settled Rathmore and Ballymac despite the work rate of Vinny Horan, Aidan Breen and Donal Daly never looked grabbing an away win.

Laune Rangers are enjoying their first year back in the top flight with a deserved win over Milltown/Castlemaine on a 0-7 to 0-4 scoreline but it was a struggle to find any highlight in game with eight yellow cards and two red cards. Rangers led 0-3 to 0-2 at half time having played with the elements thanks to three frees, two from John Tyther and one from Fiachra Clifford while Dylan O’Neill and Eanna O’Connor from free replied for the home side.

Daire Cleary and Rory O’Connor added Rangers points with Eanna O’Connor replying for Milltown/Castlemaine in the 40th minute with Rangers leading 0-5 to 0-3. The final twenty minutes were a touch watch with Rangers adding just two points while Eanna O’Connor from a free was the sum of the home side’s efforts.

Gaeltacht claimed bragging rights in the west Kerry derby, beating Dingle 1-12 to 0-6 a result that sees Dingle pointless at the bottom of the table with Kerins O’Rahilly’s. Gaeltacht led 0-7 to 0-3 at half time thanks mainly to Dara Ó Sé from frees and play and also two from play from Tomás Ó Sé. Mikey Boland and Niall Geaney were trying to keep Dingle afloat but a goal from Dara Ó Sé midway through the second half saw An Ghaeltacht ease to an important win.

A Callum Cronin goal appeared to have Glenflesk on the way to victory as they led 1-7 to 0-8 in the 56th minute but Spa rallied to grab a draw with late points from Shane Cronin and Evan Cronin with a both sides claiming a point in a 1-7 to 0-10 draw.
