THIS is not another Cork-Meath rivalry piece harking back to the bitterness and open hostility of four decades ago. There have been enough of those. More than enough.

Before examining the current relationship, the one reference we will make to the ferocious power struggle from 1987-90 is that there was a struggle. There was rivalry and bitterness and enmity because no one side was exclusively dominant.
