The decisive moment for Derek Lyng was in the 68th minute. Clare and Kilkenny were level, players were gathered for a throw sliotar and Peter Duggan won the break. David Blanchfield fouled him, Clare converted the free and kicked for home.

“(We were) trying to force a goal at the end is always difficult when you go three down or two down, we had a couple of half chances there,” the Kilkenny manager explained post-match.
