Former professional rugby player Niall Ronan has taken charge of his native St Colmcille’s GAA in Meath.
Ronan played rugby for club and country for over a decade. He played with both Leinster and Munster, where he won a Heineken Cup in 2008. He also earned four caps for Ireland but was forced to retire in 2014 due to injury.
Returning to football, Ronan helped St Colmcille's to Meath and Leinster titles in 2016 as a player. They would reach the All-Ireland final where they lost out to Lee Keegan’s Westport.
Ronan has also served as strength and conditioning coach to the Meath footballers in the past but has now decided to step up to a senior managerial role with St Colmcille's.
St Colmcille’s reached the quarter-final of the Meath SFC in 2023.
“We are delighted to announce that Niall Ronan has been ratified as senior football manager for 2024,” St Colmcille’s confirmed on social media.
“A former player, Niall was one of the stars of our 2016 Meath and Leinster Intermediate Championship winning side that went all the way to Croke Park for the All-Ireland final.
“We wish Niall and all the squad the very best of luck for 2024 as we look to build on the club’s excellent progress.”
