Tipperary could turn to Cork again for their senior football manager.
Clonakilty boss Martin O’Brien and Fermoy boss Martin Crummey are among those being linked to the position vacated by 2020 Munster SFC winning manager David Power in early June.
Rosscarbery native Peter Creedon was in charge of Tipperary from 2012 to ’15 although he had been living and working in his adopted county for several years.
Speaking to delegates at the county board’s monthly meeting earlier this week, Tipperary football chairman Conor O’Dwyer said the selection committee was “in strong discussions with someone” but were not yet prepared to make a recommendation for ratification.
Laois are also hoping to close in on Billy Sheehan’s successor in the coming week or two having conducted a number of interviews. Former Cork and Offaly coach Sheehan stepped down at the start of July.
As well as being linked to the Louth position that Mickey Harte departed last week, former Dublin footballer Ger Brennan has been mentioned as a potential Laois boss. Denis Bastick, whose father hails from The O’Moore County and almost play for the county in the early 2000s, could join him.
The native candidates are believed to include former inter-county referee Eddie Kinsella, who was U20 manager for three seasons up to 2022, and ex-Longford senior manager Billy O’Loughlin. A shortlist is currently being compiled with the successful candidate expected to be revealed next week.
Both Laois and Tipperary begin their 2024 seasons in Division 4 as do Waterford who are also on the lookout for a replacement for Ephie Fitzgerald, who left the role in late August.
It has been speculated that former Crossmaglen Rangers and Armagh star John McEntee might join Brennan in Louth. McEntee has managed his own club as well as Clontibret and is currently in charge of Inniskeen Gaels.
