Niamh McLaughlin thrilled to return to her roots

The Donegal captain played soccer for both Newcastle United and Sunderland before injury forced her to quit the game and return to Ireland

Mid-way through the first-half of Ireland's final match at the 2017 World University Games, against Great Britain, Niamh McLaughlin was brought on as a substitute.

An attacking midfielder, she replaced the team's injured right back and, with the team trailing 1-0, 'was determined that I was going on to score the equaliser and, if possible, the winning goal. I had a point to prove and that is what I was going to do'.
