Kildare star cleared to face Armagh after getting four-month-old black card overturned

Kildare and Down midfielders Kevin Feely and Kevin McKernan are free to play in Saturday week’s Round 4B All-Ireland Qualifiers after successfully appealing black cards, writes Stephen Barry.

Both players had picked up three black cards in county action across the year, but took cases to the Central Hearings Committee.

Feely appealed against two of his three bookings, from last Sunday’s Leinster final loss to Dublin and a League victory over Clare last March.

It was ultimately the black card from four months ago which was not proven and removed from the Lilywhite freetaker’s record, while the other was upheld.

McKernan, meanwhile, appealed his 41st-minute black carding from last Sunday’s Ulster final defeat at the hands of Tyrone.

His success in having that card rescinded means he will be free to play against Monaghan, while Feely is set to play against Armagh.
