Jack McCaffrey an injury doubt as UCD progress to Sigerson Cup final

UCD could be without Jack McCaffrey for their first Sigerson Cup final appearance in 13 years after the footballer of the year hobbled out of yesterday’s 4-12 to 1-9 semi-final win over UL.

McCaffrey suffered a hamstring injury and was withdrawn after 15 minutes.

UCD already had one foot in the decider come McCaffrey’s injury; leading 2-4 to 0-0 after 15 minutes.

Liam Casey and Eoin Lowry bagged the early goals that shattered the underdogs' hopes.

It was game over when Niall Kelly, put through by the extremely busy John Heslin, slotted goal number three on 20 minutes, putting 16 points between the sides at half-time, 3-9 to 0-2.

Kelly goaled again on 47 minutes, though UL did manage a goal of their own six minutes later through Ian Burke.

But UCD eased home to face holders DCU in tomorrow's final.

DCU knocked-out this year's hosts, UUJ in the second semi-final.

Shane Carey's first-half goal proved vital as it gave the visitors a measure of control during the second-half when Jordanstown desperately fought-back.

The defending champions ultimately won-out by 1-14 to 0-13.
