The fine handed down to Dromard by the GAA has been one of the most controversial stories to happen to the association in 2016.

The fine was originally set to be €3,000 before being lowered on appeal.

A statement from the Jamie Carragher soccer school at the time said: "Jamie is aware of the situation and fine imposed. The committee of the JCSS will be meeting to discuss what assistance it can offer to the club concerned."

It is being reported this morning by the Irish Independent that the former Liverpool star may be set to pay the fine on behalf of the club.

The newspaper claims that the former Liverpool defender is being "updated regularly on developments and with the appeal route now exhausted, his school may be prepared to help out with the fine".
