Brian Whelahan resigns as manager of Offaly hurlers
By Stephen Barry
Offaly hurling manager Brian Whelahan has opted not to continue in the role.
The legendary hurler had spent a disappointing two years as manager, in which time the Faithful won only one of their five Championship contests.
They narrowly defeated Antrim in 2014, but lost heavily to Laois – for the first time since 1972 – and Clare this summer.
A League win against Limerick was a rare bright spot in a miserable year, which ended with a 20-point drubbing at the hands of Clare.
A committee has been put in place to seek his successor, with candidates from inside and outside the county to be considered.
