Molly McNally to be Dublin mascot for ladies football final

Cancer patient Molly McNally has been chosen as team mascot for Dublin for the All-Ireland ladies football final at the end of September.

The six-year-old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in October. Since then she has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy before having surgery in June.

The brave little girl was soon up and about and came to national attention when she was pictured with the Dublin team in Croke Park after they won the Leinster final in July.

Molly is a huge Dublin football fan and her dad Gerry told breakingnews.ie of her delight when the team singled her out on such a big day.

“It’s a really brilliant gesture from them. The second Paul Flynn saw her and called the players they were straight over!”

“They let her hold the cup”, said Gerry, “and she was telling me ‘Daddy, I won the cup’. I couldn’t thank them enough.”

Dublin will face Cork in the ladies football final on Sunday September 28 and the players were delighted to hear that brave young Molly will be the person leading them out.
