The news was confirmed in a post on the Mayo GAA Facebook page.

Horan, who was first appointed Mayo boss in 2010, has led his county to two All-Ireland finals, losing out in 2012 to Donegal and last year to Dublin.

He also enjoyed a successful club and inter-county career as a player, winning three Connacht titles and two All-Star awards in 1996 and 1999.
