No public sale of tickets for Munster hurling final

Munster GAA have announced that tickets for the Munster hurling final will only be available for purchase from clubs.

Cork meet Limerick in the Munster Hurling final at Páirc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday July 13 and today the Munster Council have confirmed that tickets for the match will only be available through GAA clubs.

By contrast tickets for the Munster Football final - to be played between Cork and Kerry one week earlier and in the same venue - are available for purchase online at gaa.tickets.ie and at certain Centra and SuperValu stores.

There has been some controversy over the choice of location for the hurling final after Limerick complained the Cork venue lacked the capacity to satisfy demand.

Limerick and Cork have operated a home-and-away system for several years with the two counties taking turns to host the matches whenever the sides met in the Championship.

After meeting in last year's final, won by Limerick, at the Gaelic Grounds Cork are due to host the match at Páirc Ui Chaoimh this season according to the terms of that arrangement .

There had been some suggestion that in this instance the match should be moved to Semple Stadium in Thurles.

Semple Stadium can host in excess of 50,000 spectators whereas Cork's home, which is due for redevelopment, can reportedly hold somewhere between 32,000 to 40,000 fans due to health and safety regulations.

The decision was eventually made earlier in the week that the match would go ahead in Páirc Ui Chaoimh despite the fact that would mean some disappointed fans in both counties.

There have been grumblings about that decision, particularly in Limerick, and today’s ticket announcement will only add to those complaints.
