A ten-minute blitz in Tullamore looked to have derailed Galway’s Leinster title challenge and sent them tumbling back to the relative doldrums that they’ve fought hard to escape since the All-Ireland replay of 2012.

Ten points down with seven minutes to play and staring down the barrel of a humiliating defeat in a contest they had made a real fist of, Galway did the most un-Galway like of things and mounted a spectacular comeback led by Conor Cooney who netted twice in the closing three minutes, and Joe Canning who rasped his second penalty of the game to the back of the net.

As if one of the great hurling comebacks wasn’t enough to sate the viewing public’s appetite, two moments of sheer brilliance were to follow –first from Henry Shefflin with what looked like the winning point that would break Galway hearts and subsequently from the aforementioned Canning who ensured that wouldn’t be the case.

Thankfully, the net result is that they’ll do it all again in O’Connor Park this Saturday.
