Concerns for Clare's Kelly and Honan ahead of Galway game

Forwards Tony Kelly and Darach Honan are Clare's main injury concerns ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Galway at Semple Stadium.

Kelly suffered an eye injury in the 12th minute of the Clare Under-21s' Munster semi-final win over Waterford last Thursday night. The sliotar made contact with his eye after it hit the guard of his helmet and bent the bar in.

His sight is unaffected but he has not trained since due to the swelling around his eye. Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald told Clare FM that Kelly has 'a 50-50 chance' of playing against Galway.

The Ballyea youngster - a Championship debutant last July - shot five points from centre forward in Clare's SHC qualifier win over Wexford last time out, a game which Honan missed due to the groin injury he sustained in the previous round against Laois.

Fitzgerald has some able deputies if Kelly and Honan are unable to start, not least Cathal McInerney who scored two goals as a substitute in the 3-24 to 1-20 extra-time defeat of Wexford.

Speaking about their quarter-final opponents, McInerney told the Clare Champion: "Galway will present a massive challenge. They will want to bounce back from their defeat in the Leinster final.

"We have a tough challenge ahead and the target is to get to the semi-final. We haven't been in this territory for a good while and it's (a game) we are looking forward to."
