Mayo star O'Connor suffers shoulder injury in club action

Mayo sharpshooter Cillian O'Connor suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder when playing for his club Ballintubber last night.

The two-time Young Footballer of the Year was stretchered off and brought to Mayo General Hospital for treatment, with Ballintubber going on to beat Claremorris 3-11 to 1-12 in the Mayo Club Championship.

The injury blow comes barely a week after O'Connor shot six points as the county launched their Connacht SFC title defence with a runaway 4-16 to 0-11 defeat of arch rivals Galway.

But the 20-year-old forward is now a major doubt for Mayo's semi-final clash with Roscommon on Sunday, June 16.

A tweet from the official Mayo GAA Twitter account confirmed that it 'will be a few days before the full extent of Cillian's injury will be known'.

O'Connor is no stranger to shoulder injuries. He dislocated his shoulder in club action last September, missing a number of Allianz League matches this spring before returning to help Mayo reach the Division 1 semi-finals.
