Fractured jaw for Monaghan forward Freeman

Monaghan forward Tommy Freeman will miss the remainder of their Allianz Football League campaign after fracturing his jaw during their latest victory over Wicklow.

Freeman only recently returned to the Monaghan panel and was making his first start of the season in Saturday's game when he collided with a Wicklow player and had to be replaced 10 minutes into the second half.

The Farney men scored five goals as they recorded their fourth win in five league games in Clones, keeping themselves at the top of the table in Division 3.

But the loss of 2007 All-Star Freeman is a considerable blow. Having spent Saturday night in hospital, X-rays confirmed that his jaw had been fractured and he is facing a lay-off of six to eight weeks.

Freeman's forward colleague Kieran Hughes fell awkwardly during the clash with Wicklow and was hospitalised, but thankfully for manager Malachy O'Rourke he had no ill-effects and will not be joining Freeman on the sidelines.
